The U.S. government under Donald Trump has published a list of about 1,300 Chinese exports that could be hit with 25% tariffs. The tariffs would apply to about US$50 billion worth of goods, ranging from electric cars to education material.
The tariffs won’t go into effect right away. The U.S. administration said it will hold a public hearing for US businesses on May 15.
The United States has long threatened trade restrictions on Chines imports in response to what it sees as theft of trade secrets, including software, patents and other technology.
